Children on long-distance trains
- Children up to 5 years of age who do not occupy a seat travel free of charge (1 child per passenger). A ticket is issued;
- In accordance with the fare for children from 5 to 10 years of age.
Children under 10 are not allowed to travel on long-distance trains unless accompanied by an adult except in cases of pupils or students attending educational institutions by rail.
Children on suburban trains
- Children under 5 years of age travel free of charge;
- In accordance with the fare for children from 5 to 7 years of age.
The child's age is determined as of the first day of the journey.
2. Carrying hand luggage
On 1 ticket, a passenger can carry hand luggage weighing no more than 36 kg (or 50 kg in carriages with two-berth compartments (sleeper carriages) free of charge. The sum of the hand luggage's three dimensions must not exceed 180 cm.
In addition to the permitted hand luggage, each passenger is allowed to take a briefcase, handbag, binoculars, skis and ski sticks, fishing rods, a camera, umbrella, and other small items free of charge provide the sum of the three dimensions does not exceed 100 cm.
The established rules on hand luggage allow passengers on long-distance trains to take prams, kayaks and bicycles without motors when disassembled and packed.
The established rules on hand luggage allow passengers on commuter trains to take transport plants, seedlings and other planting materials not exceeding a height of 180 cm. The crown must be bound and the branches wrapped. In areas where restrictive measures or quarantine exists, the passenger must present documentation issued by the State Inspection for Plant Quarantine to ensure transportation.
Passengers can take no more than one bike in undismantled form in the vestibule of suburban commuter trains for a charge.
Items that can damage or contaminate the carriage or passengers' things or other malodorous, flammable, toxic, flammable, explosive and other dangerous substances cannot be taken as hand baggage.
When carried as hand luggage, firearms must be transported unloaded in a case, holster or special case and held separately from ammunition.
3. Carrying baggage
On one ticket issued for one passenger, including one ticket issued for the transportation of children with a seat/berth, not more than three pieces of baggage can be accepted. The three measurements (length, width, height) of each piece of baggage must not exceed 180 cm. The weight of each piece of baggage must not exceed 75 kg and the total weight of the three pieces of baggage must be no more than 200 kg.
Baggage can be accepted for transportation in advance.
Items and objects with glass or mirrors, television and radio equipment, computers and office equipment, household electrical appliances and other similar items are accepted for transportation without transshipment en route in containers or packages which must ensure their integrity during loading and unloading and display special warning labels.
Prams, strollers and wheelchairs necessary for passengers immediately after the end of their trip can be accepted for transportation without packaging.
Plants, including seedlings, nursery plants and other planting materials (hereinafter – plants) are accepted for transportation without transshipment en route. Plants are accepted for transportation from stations located on the territory of areas declared under quarantine upon presentation of a relevant quarantine document by the passenger.
It is prohibited to carry as baggage financial documents, money and other valuables, firearms, foul-smelling, flammable, poisonous, explosive and other dangerous substances, other items and objects that can harm the receptionist of the baggage and freight on trains, baggage belonging to other passengers and damage other freight or the train company, as well as fragile items packed by the passenger among other items of baggage.
4. Transportation of sport, tourist and hunting equipment
Federal Passenger Company trains are permitted to carry the following sport, tourist and hunting equipment (whose total size in three dimensions length x width x height can exceed 180 cm):
a) snowboards, skis and the accompanying ski poles, which must be stored in the spaces for carry-on luggage or together with the passengers transporting them in the carriage in such a way so as not to disturb other passengers. No fee for carrying these items will be charged to the passengers. No shipping documents are required.
b) collapsible kayaks and canoes, uncollapsible kayaks and paddles that are placed in the spaces for carry-on luggage or together with the passengers transporting them in the carriage in such a way so as not to disturb other passengers. A fee will be charged for each canoe (kayak) carried on the train at the rate for baggage weighing 30 kg;
c) unmotorised bicycles in dismantled and packed form that are placed in the spaces for carry-on luggage or together with the passengers transporting them in the carriage in such a way so as not to disturb other passengers. A fee will be charged for each bicycle carried on the train at the rate for baggage weighing 10 kg;
d) hunting and sporting guns carried unloaded in cases, holsters or special carrying cases and separately from ammunition placed in the spaces for carry-on luggage. A fee will be charged for each unit and accessories transported on the train at the rate for baggage weighing 10 kg;
Attention! From 25 May to 25 July 2018, the transportation and carrying of arms and ammunition on trains to cities hosting the World Cup matches and respective football squads is prohibited: Anapa, Volgograd, Voronezh, Grozny, Yekaterinburg, Yessentuki, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Krasnodar , Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saransk, Svetlogorsk and Togliatti.
This prohibition is in accordance with Russian Federation Presidential Decree No. 202 “On the Implementation of Enhanced Security Measures during the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2018 FIFA Confederations Cup Championship in the Russian Federation“ dated 9 May 2017.
e) sport poles transported in compartment carriages and carriages with 2-berth compartments (sleeping compartment). Poles must be tied together and placed uniformly along the casing of the heating pipes in the corridor such that they do not interfere with the passage of passengers along the corridor. Sport poles can only be loaded at the train departure station and intermediate stations where the train stops for at least 5 minutes from a high platform through the window on the corridor side of the carriage. Poles can be unloaded at the destination station only after all passengers have first fully disembarked from the carriage. A fee will be charged for each pole carried on the train at the rate for baggage weighing 10 kg. No more than 2 sport poles can be transported on one ticket. The conductor of the passenger carriage in which the sport poles are transported is responsible for checking the loading and unloading of the poles.
Booking the shipping documents for such equipment can be carried out from the date when tickets for seats on the train go on sale, and before departure, regardless of the date when the passenger buys the ticket.
On suburban commuter trains, skis and their accompanying ski poles can be carried free of charge when the total of their three dimensions exceed 180 cm providing they are stored in the space intended for carry-on luggage. Only one pair of skis can be taken on one ticket.
A fee is charged for carrying skis on the operating area serviced by the following suburban commuter companies: Central Suburban Passenger Company, Bashkortostan Suburban Passenger Company and Transbaikalskaya Suburban Passenger Company.
Skis can be carried free of charge from 1 December to 10 March on the operating area serviced by the North-West Suburban Passenger Company.
Passengers bear the sole responsibility for ensuring the integrity and security of their baggage and luggage.
In addition to the normal allowance for hand luggage, all categories of small pets, dogs and birds can be transported in all carriages (except carriages with two-berth compartments (sleeping carriages) and deluxe carriages) if a veterinary health certificate is available and a charge is paid for the transportation in accordance with paragraph 151 of the Rules for Transporting Passengers, Baggage and Luggage on Federal Railways.
Small pets, dogs and birds must be transported in boxes, baskets, cages or containers, which must be placed in the spaces designed to accommodate hand luggage.
The owner shall be materially liable for the transportation of small pets, dogs and birds without payment in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
Owners of small pets, dogs and birds, or those accompanying them, must comply with the carriage's sanitary regime when transporting animals.
It is not permitted to carry wild animals as hand luggage on trains and carriages of all categories.
Large dogs can be taken on trains, but must be muzzled and on a leash:
- in a separate compartment in a compartment carriage, except de luxe carriages supervised by their owners or accompanying passengers. Passengers pay the full cost of all seats in the compartment without additional payment for the dogs' transportation, but the number of dogs and their owners or accompanying passengers travelling in the compartment shall not exceed the number of seats in the compartment;
- in the vestibule of suburban trains (no more than two dogs per carriage) under the supervision of their owners or accompanying passengers with payment for their transportation.
Transporting working dogs
Working dogs can be transported, provided they are muzzled and on a leash, in a separate compartment of a compartment carriage under the supervision of their owners or accompanying passengers paying the full cost of all seats in the compartment without additional payment for their transportation. The number of dogs and their owners or accompanying passengers in the compartment should not exceed the number of seats in the compartment.
In suburban commuter trains, working dogs can transported under the supervision of their owners or accompanying passengers upon payment for their transportation.
The transportation of large and working dogs in suburban commuter trains is charged in accordance with the Regulations noted above.
The transportation of dogs requires the presence of a veterinary health certificate.
Blind passengers can take guide dogs with them free of charge in all types of carriage.
Small pets, dogs, birds and bees can be transported in the baggage car without transshipment en route. Animals must be transported in special containers or containers with trays (in baskets, cages, crates) and protected against damage and injury and contamination of the carriage and baggage in the baggage car. The carrier is not responsible for feeding the animals.
Pets are accepted for transportation in the baggage car in which they will be carried no later than 1 hour before the train departure. A baggage receipt for their transportation is issued. If the baggage receipt is lost, the animals may be handed to the recipient on presentation of an identity document and proof that this baggage belongs to him/her.
Animals must be collected at the destination station immediately upon arrival of the train on which they were transported, but no later than 12 hours after the train's arrival. If the animal is not collected, the railway company is entitled to dispose of it in the manner prescribed.
